Altruism Counseling Services
You didn’t intend to drink and drive, but after you got a few drinks in your system, your judgment wasn’t very good. You were so sure you would be “just fine” to drive. Those flashing police lights sobered you up real quick, but didn’t do much to quell your over-the-limit blood alcohol level.
Since then, you find yourself teetering back and forth between “I’ve got this covered” and “I want my life back.” The endless appointments, expenses, and legal requirements that come with a DUI can feel overwhelming. Especially if you have other responsibilities, such as work and family. And, if you’re like many others, the question that haunts you most is, “How can I be sure I won’t do this again?”
DUI Arrests Are Common – Getting the Right Support Should Be Too
In the state of Kentucky, there were more than 18,000 DUI arrests in 2020. Nationwide, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) estimates that 18.5 million people drove under the influence of alcohol within the same year. Sadly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that one person every 39 minutes dies in a drunk-driving accident.

How Court-Approved DUI Classes Work in Kentucky
All court-ordered DUI services must be conducted by an Alcohol and Drug Entity (AODE) licensed by the state of Kentucky. All services commence with an assessment performed by a certified DUI assessor. The initial assessment determines whether you will need a) alcohol and substance use education (DUI Classes) conducted by certified Prime For Life (PRI) 20-Hour counselors or b) alcohol and substance use treatment, or c) a combination of both.
“Altruism Counseling is an AODE licensed by the state of Kentucky and a certified Driving Under the Influence (DUI) program provider. We have a certified assessor designated by the state of Kentucky to conduct your assessment. Our services include PRI 20-hour DUI Classes administered by certified PRI counselors. Additionally, we offer outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) group therapy led by a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Our offerings include:
- State-approved assessments
- State-approved alcohol and substance use education (DUI classes)
- State-approved alcohol and substance use treatment
If you need to install a court-ordered ignition device, our certified targeted case managers and supervisor can assist you in navigating its requirements.”
Regardless of how you ended up here, whether you chose treatment or were court-ordered, our caring and compassionate staff will help guide you to a better quality of life. Everyone’s story is different, and we want you to feel that yours is heard and understood. During your assessment, we listen carefully to your needs and goals so we can recommend an individualized plan based on what’s in your best interests.
What Is Covered in Altruism’s State-Approved DUI Classes in Kentucky?
DUI classes offered are the state approved, 20-Hour “Prime for Life (PRI)” classes. PRI is a 20-hour psychoeducation course that provides an understanding of how alcohol and substance disorders develop and how you can prevent them.
The DUI class, led by a certified instructor, is a media-rich prevention developed from over 1,800 research studies conducted over the course of 75 years. It applies motivational interviewing techniques and a transtheoretical model to provide participants with an engaging and valuable experience in a non-judgmental setting.
Prime For Life classes include three learning units:
- Exploration: Exploring the perception of personal risk
- Reflection: Learning about the progression of addiction and assessing where you might be on that journey
- Protection: Preparing for personal change after DUI classes
We are one of, if not the least expensive program in Lexington. We also take Kentucky state – Medicaid insurance and some commercial insurance. Please follow the link to compare our pricing with other organizations.
Our hope is that these classes will feel more motivating than mandated and that they will inspire you to move forward with a mindset of protecting the things you value most in life.
