The is the local government office responsible for monitoring compliance with court-ordered mandates for alcohol and drug-related driving offenses. The program coordinates screening, prevention, and tracking of treatment for offenders within Taos County.
Program Services & Monitoring
The office does not teach the classes directly but ensures that you complete all elements of your sentence.

DWI Screening: All offenders must undergo a mandatory screening and interview to determine the level of substance use and the necessary treatment path.

Compliance Monitoring: The staff tracks your progress with community service, interlock device installation, and attendance at required schools.

Teen Court: The office also manages the Taos County Teen Court, a prevention program and alternative sentencing path for younger offenders.

DWI School Options in Taos
Since New Mexico does not approve online courses for the 12-hour DWI requirement, you must attend in person. While the county office is in Albright Street, classes are often held at other community locations.

AMC Driving School (Taos Location): Frequently holds classes at the Juan I. Gonzales Agricultural Center (202 Chamisa Road).

Schedule: Classes are usually split into three 4-hour sessions (e.g., three consecutive Fridays from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM).

Cost: Approximately $190, payable by card or cash. You must bring your court order or referral form.
Primary Functions:
- Coordinates program development, financial management and funding acquisition.
- Organizes, directs and performs program public relations.
- Organizes prevention education events and deliver public addresses to educate and solicits support for our program.
- Conducts site visits at schools to solicit education on DWI for students and faculty.
- Conducts monthly DWI Planning Council meetings; coordinates the preparation of meeting agenda; attends and participates in meetings.
- Solicits community DWI input-needs in collaboration with the Underage Drinking Coalition and the Taos Alive Coalition through community meetings.
