A Brief History of Townsend & Thompson, LLP In 1971, Richard Townsend was a solo practitioner who had already been practicing since 1965. Attorney Townsend and Thomas J. Thompson, a local attorney who had been serving as a legal assistant in the South Carolina Supreme Court, joined to form Townsend & Thompson, LLP. From their Laurens County office, these attorneys and their associates have been serving everyone from individuals to large corporations and banks ever since. Richard Townsend, founding attorney, recently passed on after nearly 50 years of legal service in South Carolina. Our firm name and Richard Townsend’s legacy are extremely important to us, so we continue to honor this tradition by proudly maintaining the name Townsend & Thompson, LLP.
