Who We Are

SpectraCare Health Systems is a regional community-based system that provides mental health, substance abuse and intellectual disability services in Southeast Alabama in Barbour, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston Counties.  SpectraCare, formerly known as Wiregrass Mental Health Board, was established in 1968 under Act 310 of the Alabama State Legislature.

SpectraCare is a tax-exempt public non-profit corporation under the IRS Code Section 501(c) 3. Contributions or donations to SpectraCare are deductible for income tax purposes.

SpectraCare is certified to provide services by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.  We work with various state and local agencies to provide needed services to the citizens of our five-county area.

Referral for services is usually made by physicians, other service agencies, institutions, schools, churches, and family members.

The Substance Abuse Services Division offers a continuum of care to meet the needs of consumers.  SA Services are offered in Barbour, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston Counties.  Select the Services links to your left to see a sampling of the Services offered.

Priority appointments (within 48hours of request for services) are reserved for people who use IV drugs and are pregnant, pregnant women, people who use IV drugs, individuals who are HIV positive and women with dependent children.

The Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program operates under the belief that addiction is a disease and is best treated with a 12 Step recovery approach with emphasis on family involvement.  It is designed to serve individuals with substance abuse problems who have the ability to achieve sobriety through a less restrictive environment than afforded by residential treatment, but are in need of a more intensive treatment than conventional outpatient therapy. Group, Individual and Family Therapy are the key components of IOP.
