Amethyst Foundation, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that has offered professional substance abuse education, intervention and evaluation to individuals, courts, probation officers and other organizations since 1981. The administrative offices and residential facility are located in Epping, New Hampshire, which is readily accessible to residents of New Hampshire and other New England states.

Amethyst Foundation provides class sessions, substance evaluations and service plan development. Its WIDEP (Weekend Program) is certified by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services and is accepted by almost all other states as an approved alternative for DWI/DUI education/intervention.

Effective January 6, 2024, New Hampshire has dramatically changed the process for DWI/DUI offenses. This only applies to:

  1. New Hampshire DWI convictions
  2. Convictions from other states that are recorded on an individual’s New Hampshire record as a DWI/DUI.

Out-of-State Convictions: If your conviction occurred in another state, most of this process does not apply to you. You would only have the same three components as before:

  1. Intake
  2. Educational sessions (now called IDEP rather than IDIP)
  3. Summary Report/Evaluation (sent to you following attendance)

The DUI / IDCMP Program

Amethyst is a licensed provider for the New Hampshire Impaired Driver Care Management Program (IDCMP). Their services are designed to meet all state requirements for license reinstatement.

  • Intake & Screening: The mandatory first step where a counselor determines if you are “screen positive” for a potential substance use disorder.
  • Impaired Driver Education Program (IDEP): A 20-hour educational course often delivered in three sessions (e.g., two consecutive weekend days and a follow-up Saturday). These are currently offered virtually via Zoom.
  • Weekend Program (WIDEP): A specialized 22-hour residential program conducted over a single weekend (Friday 3:00 PM to Sunday 3:00 PM). It is held at “Amethyst House,” a converted 18th-century farmhouse that provides a retreat-like setting.
  • Substance Use Evaluations: Comprehensive assessments required for repeat offenders or those who screen positive during intake.

Service Fees

As a non-profit, Amethyst sets fees in accordance with New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) rules.

  • Standard IDEP/WIDEP: Approximately $425.00 for New Hampshire residents.
  • Out-of-State Convictions: Approximately $625.00 for those holding out-of-state licenses with out-of-state convictions.
  • Intake Fee: Typically around $75.00 – $100.00 (separate from the course fee).
