The system manages over 11,500 acres of open space and natural resources in the northern Twin Cities metro area. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by protecting the natural environment while providing diverse outdoor recreation and leisure services.
System Overview
The department oversees a vast network of regional parks, trails, and conservation areas. A key feature of the system is the reciprocal agreement with Washington County, meaning an annual vehicle permit purchased for Anoka County parks is also valid at Washington County park locations.
- Diverse Ecosystems: The parks preserve a mix of prairies, woodlands, and wetlands, including unique features like the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes.
- Year-Round Access: Facilities are managed for all seasons, offering everything from summer water parks to winter cross-country ski trails.
- Accessibility: Many parks feature paved regional trails that connect various cities across the county, such as Fridley, Coon Rapids, and Andover.
Anoka County Community Corrections provides educational programming for a number of non-residential programs that help adult offenders achieve healthy and responsible lives. Some classes meet online. Contact your probation officer for questions.
