The On-Demand Addictions Education Course is designed to be self-paced allowing participants to take breaks at leisure and complete it on their own time while working around personal schedules. The interactive design ensures participants review the same material offered during in-person classes.
This class is suitable for both youth and adults charged with first-offense alcohol or drug-related crimes (e.g. possession/paraphernalia or DUI), persons involved with Diversion/Probation, or anyone wanting to learn more about addictions.
The course covers the effects of substances on the brain and body, co-occurring issues, and relapse prevention. Throughout the Addictions Education course, you will learn how addiction progresses from lived experience with individuals in recovery while understanding addiction as a disease concept. The impact on families and communities is also addressed. Content reflects current national and local substance abuse trends related to overdose, opioids, cannabis products, vaping, and synthetic drugs. Special focus is given to alcohol abuse to support changing attitudes about drinking and driving. A Victim Impact section is included to help understand the risks and consequences of drunk driving.
Licensed Addictions Counselors are available during business hours (M-F: 9am-5pm) to answer questions related to the class. When all coursework is finished, a Nebraska Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor will verify course completion, and a formal certificate will be emailed within 3-5 business days. The cost of this course is $150, which is paid online during registration.
This 8-hour class meets all Nebraska justice system substance abuse education requirements.
