My practice philosophy can be demonstrated with a story. An ancient Japanese proverb tells of a seasoned samurai warrior who responded to a brash young warrior’s challenge. The seasoned samurai invited the young warrior to fight him on a deserted island.The seasoned warrior rowed the brash young man out to the island while calmly listening to the upstart’s threats. Once he reached the island, the young warrior jumped out of the boat rushed to the shore for high ground, and turned to shout more threats — only to see the seasoned warrior smiling back at him as he rowed back to the mainland.I am attorney Daniel J. Lounsbury. As a lawyer, my approach to the practice of law is similar to that of the mature warrior. Rather than always responding to threats and aggression with more of the same, I respond with creative, client-focused solutions. However, when necessary, I do not hesitate to go to battle.When my clients’ cases cannot be settled out of court, I am prepared to provide forceful, effective representation in the courtroom.

At my firm, I handle a broad range of legal matters, including family lawmatters such as divorce, child custody and high-asset divorces. I also represent clients who were injured in car accidents and defend those who face criminal charges.
Often, these issues overlap. When they do, it is important to work with an attorney who has experience in many areas of the law. For instance, divorce cases that involve claims of domestic violence often give rise to criminal charges as well. In a situation like this, I can handle both cases without having to bring another attorney on board. Also, my experience with different areas of the law enables me to think about how the resolution of a client’s case may affect other areas of his or her life down the road.
In addition to my work as a Salem lawyer, I am very involved in my community. I limit my caseload in order to devote more time to my community and my family. Many of my clients appreciate that I share their values and that I understand what matters most to them.
