DUI EDUCATION
MAAC DUI PROGRAM OVERVIEW
MAAC’s Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Education Program aims to reduce the impact and frequency of impaired driving. It provides safe, supportive, and confidential counseling services for individuals whose driving privileges have been restricted due to DUI. The program is part of MAAC’s Health & Well-being pathway.
LICENSE AND PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
MAAC is one of three agencies in San Diego County licensed by the State of California and DMV-approved. The program serves nearly 1,600 participants every month.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Participants are referred by the San Diego County Superior Court, San Diego County Probation Office, or the DMV. Certified alcohol and drug counselors provide:
- Individual and group counseling sessions
- Education services and resources for drivers and families
Program duration ranges from 6 weeks to 18 months. Classes are offered in English and Spanish, five days per week, with flexible day and evening schedules.
PROGRAM HISTORY
Since 1976, the program has helped over 63,000 individuals re-evaluate their relationship with controlled substances and improve community safety.
ENROLLMENT PROCESS
REQUIRED INFORMATION
Participants should have the following ready:
- Current Address
- Phone Number
- Date of Birth
- Arrest Date
- BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration)
- Case Number
- Driver’s License Number
- Court Referral OR DMV Printout/Admin Per Se
- Email Address
APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING
Call (619) 409-1780 ext. 1201 to schedule an orientation. Participants are responsible for knowing their program type and length.
ORIENTATION
- Orientation is mandatory.
- Review program rules.
- Sign payment contract and consent forms.
- Scheduling team sets up program and classes.
- Proof of enrollment available upon request (allow 5 business days).
CLASS PARTICIPATION
- Arrive 10 minutes early for in-person classes.
- Zoom participants must set up an account with their registered name.
- No grace period for late arrival; participants must sign in on time.
- Missed activities delay program completion and may incur fees.
PROGRAM COMPLETION
- Completion requires finishing all groups, face-to-face sessions, education, and self-help meetings.
- Zero account balance is required.
- DMV notified within 10 days of completion.

ENROLLMENT STEPS
STEP 1: REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Court referral OR DMV Admin Per Se (APS)
- Citation from law enforcement OR Driving History Printout from DMV
- Court Referral: Provided at San Diego County SAAU after court date
- DMV Admin Per Se: Letter stating license suspension and arrest date
- Driving History Printout: Required for proof of enrollment for restricted license
- Citation must be accompanied by DMV Admin Per Se
STEP 2: PAYMENT
- Down payment required at orientation
- Payment accepted via money order, Visa, or MasterCard (no cash)
- Confirm payment amount with receptionist; prices subject to change
STEP 3: PHOTO IDENTIFICATION
- Name and photo ID must match paperwork
STEP 4: DOCUMENTS
- Bring all required documentation to orientation to expedite processing

- Valid email
- Zoom app installed on device
- Zoom account with registered name
