Nassau Community College (NCC)

The Nassau Community College (NCC) Impaired Driver Program (IDP) is an official, New York State-licensed educational series for motorists convicted of alcohol or drug-related driving offenses. This program is a critical step for individuals seeking to reinstate their driving privileges or qualify for a conditional license.

Program Details & Structure

The IDP focuses on personal safety and the legal consequences of impaired driving.

  • Duration: The course consists of 16 hours of classroom instruction.

  • Schedule: To meet state requirements, the program is conducted over seven weekly sessions, with each session lasting between 2 and 3 hours.

  • Screening: A standardized screening is part of the curriculum. If the results suggest a clinical need, the instructor will refer the participant to a state-certified professional for a formal evaluation and potential treatment.

  • Attendance: New York State law requires 100% attendance. If a session is missed, it must be made up according to strict DMV guidelines to avoid being dropped from the program.

Registration & Location

You cannot enroll in this program through the standard college registration portal.

  • DMV First: You must first go to a New York State DMV office to sign up for the IDP. The DMV will verify your eligibility and assign you to a specific course provider, such as NCC.

  • Campus Location: Classes are held on the Nassau Community College campus in Garden City, NY.

  • Office Location: The Continuing Education office is located in the Tower Building, Room 205.

Fees and Operating Hours

  • Enrollment Fees: There is a $75 non-refundable fee paid to the DMV at the time of registration.

  • Course Fee: The separate tuition fee for the NCC program is $233.

  • Administrative Hours: The Continuing Education office is generally open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Class Times: Sessions are typically scheduled for weekday evenings (starting around 6:30 PM or 7:00 PM) to accommodate working individuals.
