About Us
New Horizons Counseling (est. 1980) is a nationally recognized program that utilizes a cognitive approach for teaching individuals to make constructive, rather than destructive choices for drinking, drugs, or substance abuse. New Horizons is listed on the official SAMHSA (US Dept. Of Health and Human Services Substance abuse and mental health Services administration.)
Mark Turansky, CSAC (Certified Substance Abuse Counselor) Clinical Director and owner of New Horizons, is a Professional Counselor with over 40 years experience. A “Kamaaina” since 1979, Mark graduated from the University of Hawaii (808) 484-1000; he is a member of the AAC, AACC, a Certified Addictions & Recovery Specialist, certified Wellness Counselor and certified Marriage Life Coach.* In 2012, Mark’s hard work and accomplishments were noticed and recognized by Dr. Sunny Massad of the Hawaii Wellness Institute where he was awarded an honorary degree for Wellness, Coaching, Consulting and Counseling.
Mark is author of the book: “Figure It. Face it and Fix it – The surprising solution to addictions and substance abuse.” A local resident since 1979, he loves Hawaii’s beaches and outdoor recreation. You will find him fun loving, informal, easy going and great to work with. Mark’s unique insights will challenge you to think differently about your challenges as he coaches you to choose a positive perspective of happiness, peace and joy.
Kelli Turansky – Executive Director of New Horizons is a Certified Marriage and Addiction Life Coach. Kelli, a long time business owner and entrepreneur in the State of Hawaii is currently authoring two books designed to empower women to be their best selves. Kelli and Mark work well together to make a powerful team that helps others reach their personal goals.
Intensive Outpatient Program – DUI & Alcohol Counseling – New Horizons Hawaii
At New Horizons Hawaii, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured, one-on-one counseling for individuals dealing with alcohol or substance use concerns, including those with DUI-related cases in Hawaii. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help clients develop constructive decision-making skills and achieve long-term behavioral change without relying solely on traditional 12-step or residential models.
Our IOP is designed to fit your life, offering confidential counseling that builds emotional skills, personal responsibility, and psychological resilience. We focus on helping clients regain control over alcohol or drug use and sustain sobriety for long-term recovery.
