Intensive Outpatient Counseling

The primary goal of IOP is abstinence from all mood altering substances and chemicals. The program is designed to increase knowledge of the disease/addiction model and to develop appropriate skills to manage relapse prevention. Both Day and Night Programs are available.

The IOP is also designed to fully engage individuals in a 12 Step Program and to involve family members and significant others in the program as needed. Each Intensive Outpatient session consists of an educational lecture followed by a group therapy session. Each session is 1 ½ hours in duration, thus each group meeting is 3 hours.

Ambulatory Detoxification

An initial evaluation will determine the appropriateness of this level of care and development of an initial treatment plan. The next step is completion of a complete physical by our Medical Doctor and initiation of detoxification protocol.

Detoxification typically occurs over a 3-5 day period in which the client has daily contact with the doctor and therapist. At the completion of the detoxification phase clients will be encouraged to enter the appropriate level of treatment to address addiction / recovery. Family members and significant others are strongly encouraged to participate in support of detoxification and treatment.

Early Recovery Group

This group is for individuals in the early stages of recovery and for those who have completed the intensive phase of treatment.

During this phase, the group takes a deeper look into the issues present in early recovery; repairing relationships, facing consequences, sober life management, and finding a sponsor within the 12 Step program. The program duration is based on individual progress and by client request.

Suboxone Detoxification

River’s Bend PC can provide opioid detox for individuals who want suboxone treatment or wish to continue it as part of their ongoing treatment after detox. All clients are required to remain engaged in therapy and 12 step meetings.

Substance Abuse Education Series

We provide a series comprised of interactive handouts and video presentations to increase client’s knowledge of addiction and the effects of addiction in all facets of life.

The series is developed to meet the needs of each client taking into consideration age, previous treatment, and the motivation for completion.

Our Therapy Process

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment. We work hard to pair you with a therapist that we believe will be the best fit for you and your current struggles.

Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the therapist and provide them with some background about yourselves and the reasons you are seeking counseling. In addition, they will be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in therapy. With your best interests in mind, you will decide together what kind of treatment will benefit you the most.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work that therapist, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, you will work with your therapist to set goals for your overall therapy experience and then begin working together towards achieving them.

Counseling Services

Assessment

River’s Bend PC provides assessment and evaluation for each client entering treatment. The client’s therapist initially reviews all historical information and relevant data provided by the client to determine individual care need. Appointments with assigned therapist are made according to level of urgency. All individuals who call or are referred for treatment are screened for immediacy of need, and appointments are made accordingly with an assigned therapist. Therapists develop an initial evaluation and assessment, which is reviewed by the medical director, during the first visit to the clinic.

Individual Therapy

Individual psychotherapy is conducted to provide the support, identification/ coping with feelings, and problem resolution necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Control of impulsivity, enhancing the level of healthy emotional functioning, and acceptance of responsibility will be emphasized. Within the short-term treatment requirements dictated by managed care, solution oriented and short-term psychotherapy is practiced and encouraged .The level of frequency of individual psychotherapy will be assessed and determined on a case-by-case-basis.

Family Therapy

Family psychotherapy may take place in the form of joint therapy, family therapy, or family group. Family involvement is encouraged during treatment and the goal is to increase communication, understanding, and identification among the family members. Treatment with the family may be ongoing and aftercare planning for the family will be part of the overall treatment plan. The expected outcome is the stabilization of family relationships to support ongoing healthy functioning.

Group Therapy

Group psychotherapy will provide confrontation, group identification, and expression of feelings. Goals include self-understanding, self-acceptance, self-reliance and improved peer interaction. Group therapy is conducted and facilitated by a professional staff member who is trained in group therapy. The preferable group size is twelve. Educational information is discussed in various groups and relates to lifestyle and emotional changes that provide more stable living. Alternative coping skills and increased knowledge of mentally healthy lifestyle is expected upon completion.

Adolescent Substance Abuse

We address the specific developmental needs of teens 12-17 years of age. The adolescent IOP is an innovative program added to our clinic to immediately address teens with problem use of drugs or alcohol. The program is designed to facilitate change and support the family with insuring long term sustained recovery.

Due to adolescents’ underdeveloped brains, they are at even greater risk of becoming addicted.
Teen drug abuse is a powerful problem that has the potential to destroy a teen’s future.
The onset of substance use is occurring at younger ages.
As a result more adolescents are now entering treatment for substance abuse disorders than has been observed in past years.
The issues that play significant roles in an adolescent’s life, such as cognitive, emotional, physical, social, moral, developmental, and environmental will all be included in the treatment plan.

Group sessions are held three hours per day, three days a week. The number of sessions is determined by individualized treatment planning process. During attendance the adolescent is able to continue school and live at home. A family session is conducted once per week. Family is the most important contributor to an adolescent’s long-term success. Our program includes the family system in effort to be most effective.

Health Professional Recovery Program

River’s Bend PC is an HPRP-approved site to provide services to Health Professionals within the contractual guidelines. Several of our professional staff are HPRP providers who can conduct extensive substance use disorder evaluations as well as group therapy. We can follow licensees through their entire contract to assure completion. Our staff can handle intakes, individual sessions, group therapy sessions as well as the psychiatric sessions needed to complete the program. We have the ability to accept most insurance plans for the HPRP Program as long as the health professional meets program criteria.

Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program

In addition to our IOP for SUD, River’s Bend, PC offers IOP for Mental Health.  This format and programming has been discussed by leaders within the clinic and we have decided to increase our abilities to support change.  This service will allow for individuals to have support for change and increased mental health support as a step down from inpatient or instead of hospitalization.

River’s Bend PC will conduct the MH IOP three times per week in three hour sessions via teletherapy.  This teletherapy is delivered via ZOOM, a confidentially compliant platform with a positive response from clients. The format provides an opportunity for a therapist to facilitate group that directly mimics the in-person experience.

Like noted in other programming: MH IOP will begin with identified persons calling the office directly and either being offered the IOP at that time as a possible choice, having already known of the IOP from their insurance company or employer, or identified as an existing client in therapy within the clinic.  The process of tele-therapy and required consents begins at the first phone call to the clinic and the support staff has been trained to support a client moving to the tele-therapy form of behavioral health treatment.  Their words and descriptions are specific to help clients engage in this alternative form of treatment.

For new clients they will engage in the usual process: phone call with information gathered, be given a link to privately complete the requested paperwork and schedule an intake with a therapist.  This intake will screen for appropriateness and explain the IOP expectations and overview of rules with instructions to log on to the IOP at the designated times.

The clinical staff earmarked whom developed the IOP and content have extensive experience with the IOP format, strong working relationships with each other and have conducted groups via teletherapy during this time. The billing for IOP sessions is an established process within the clinic, as is the necessary clinical documentation and requirements for teletherapy.

Access to a Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Reviews by our medical staff that include Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners is available for all clients in the MH IOP.  The medical staff will monitor psychotropic stabilization and remain in communication with the IOP facilitators.
