      Larry Sandefer is a highly experienced criminal defense lawyer who  is not only a former trial prosecutor, where he handled thousands of criminal cases, while he was an assistant state attorney he became a Lead Trial Attorney handling major cases at trial including murder, robbery, organized crime and life felonies.

      Mr. Sandefer also served in one of the top positions in the state attorney’s office, that of Division Director.   As one of only three Division Directors at the time he supervised and trained other experienced felony attorneys and misdemeanor attorneys.  As a Division Director he was in the position where he  was called on to make filing and sentencing decisions and recommendations. He reported directly to the elected state attorney.   The positions of Division Director in the State Attorney’s  Office in the 6th Judicial Circuit operate under the same framework with the same authority as they did when Mr. Sandefer was a Division Director. Mr. Sandefer is one of only a select few former  Division Directors in this area who are  active in criminal defense.

      As a Division Director,  Larry Sandefer was also on-call for homicides and on the homicide response team for murders which had occurred and he responded to active homicide scenes where he advised the police and provided legal support. He has presented homicide cases to the Pinellas County Grand Jury.

        Mr. Sandefer is not shy about taking cases to trial when necessary.  He has tried hundreds of  cases and cases of notoriety as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. These have included multi-jurisdictional homicides, death cases,  sex crimes, and violent crimes, as well as DUI, theft, drug crimes and more.  He has continued handling major cases as well as all felony and misdemeanor charges as a criminal defense attorney . He has taken to a jury trial approximately 20  murder cases and has handled many more. Few Clearwater/Pinellas County Criminal Defense Lawyers have comparable experience.   Larry  Sandefer is a graduate of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Law Enforcement Training Course on undercover narcotics investigation techniques  put on by the DEA which is designed as education for undercover law enforcement officers.
