Ten16 Recovery Network has a proud history of providing services to people and communities being impacted by substance use disorders.  Ten16 was started in Midland in 1979.  Thanks to the vision of nine local churches, working with a community task force, they set us up as a separate, private, non-profit agency to address this important community need.  Initially started as an 11-bed halfway house, the program became a 15-bed, co-ed, residential treatment facility in the late 1980s.  As a way to impact more lives, the agency opened an outpatient counseling office in Midland in 1995, and added prevention services in 1999.  Shortly after that, the agency had an opportunity to open a small satellite office in Mt Pleasant in 2000.

In 2004, Ten16 acquired Mt Pleasant Counseling Services, expanding its presence in Isabella County.  Shortly after that, in 2006, the agency added a 6-bed detox facility.  Due to the untimely closing of another counseling agency in 2007, Ten16 ended up opening counseling/prevention offices in Clare, Gladwin and Big Rapids.   Seeing the need to enhance their efforts to help people sustain their recovery, Ten16 added recovery support services in the Midland office as a pilot program.

Thanks to the generosity of several foundations in Midland, the agency was able to build a new 20-bed residential treatment facility on a 19-acre horse farm on M-20, 4 miles from downtown Midland.  The program moved Christmas 2011.  With an empty 1016 Home as well as an unused farm house on the new property, Ten16 flipped those two buildings into a 14-bed men’s recovery house and 7-bed women’s recovery house, respectively; opening them in May 2013.  Now the agency could provide a safe, sober place for people early in recovery.  In November 2014, Ten16 added that last leg of their recovery support services with the introduction of a supported employment program, being piloted in Midland.

The most recent program addition to the agency has been the introduction of the Center for Recovery & Wellness in Midland and Big Rapids in 2015.  These locations are leading a cutting edge integration of prevention, outreach, recovery support, treatment and drop-in services that provide instant access to recovery coaches for the help people are looking for.

DETOX

Recovery may start with detox; getting clean and sober.

Going through withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs can be physically distressing, painful and even dangerous.  Located in Mt. Pleasant, the social detox program provides a safe place for clients to withdraw from their substance use.  It is a residential program that is clinically managed and medically monitored to help the client prepare for the next step in their recovery. The person will stay in a 7-bed residential facility where personal care, early recovery skills, medical support and nutritious meals are provided.  To talk with someone about detox services, please call 888.773.3869.

The client will get an individual evaluation to tailor treatment to their needs.  The person will see a doctor within 24 hours to oversee the medication protocols and provide medical assistance for symptom relief as the person goes through withdrawal.  During the period of detoxification, every effort is made to build recovery skills and reduce stress.  As the client gets through the initial stages and begins to feel physically better, the staff will work with the client to make a plan for their continuing care.  They will help the client get into the next level of treatment and link them with other recovery resources in their local community.

How to get help:

  1. Call anytime!   888.773.3869 or 989.775.0604

RESIDENTIAL CARE

Structured treatment & support; serenity can be found here!

A 20-bed facility on 18 wooded acres near Midland, the program consists of active treatment in a structured environment with a range of clinical interventions, social and recreational therapies, and fellowship to build recovery life skills during the week.

We are dedicated to working with substance dependent individuals who verbalize a desire to stop using substances and who are willing to learn to live life on life’s terms, free from relying on alcohol and other drugs.  The focus of treatment is promoting a recovering lifestyle by assisting those served in finding balance in their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.  We believe that addiction is largely a symptom of other underlying issues for which alcohol and other drugs have become the solution.

We recognize that addiction is progressive and predictable if left untreated.  Conversely, the patterns of distorted thinking and behavior associated with the disease can be changed.  We believe in the 12 steps as a proven framework for recovery and in the need for each client to embrace a comprehensive “program of right living.”  We believe in embracing the recovery community to assist the client in forging relationships that can assist them in maintaining their recovery.  We believe that, through engaging in the treatment process and connecting with others that have found success in moving forward, recovery is possible.

All residential treatment services are designed and implemented to:

  • Support the recovery, health and well-being of the client and family
  • Enhance the quality of life of the client and family
  • Reduce symptoms of needs and build resilience
  • Restore and/or improve functioning
  • Integrate back into their community
  • Services are designed and implemented to support stabilization of substance free living, to further enhance commitment to abstinence, and to explore attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that lead to relapse back to substance use, while developing readiness for the next level of treatment that supports a recovery lifestyle. These goals are met by accurately screening, gathering biopsychosocial assessment information to identify strengths, weaknesses, desires and needs of the individual, and by making recommendations for treatment planning accordingly, with client participation.

Treatment objectives are fulfilled through group, family and individual counseling, as well as education based on assessment findings, participation in recreational and community supports that are grounded in teaching and supporting the client’s participation in activities without the use of mind altering substances.

Family Involvement

Our concern extends to family members and others directly affected by addiction and associated behaviors.  We believe that their family members are inadvertent partners in this disease process and can be helped to see their role in the illness and in the process of recovery.  We embrace opportunities to engage families in the treatment process as clients allow.  We believe in providing families with education and connection with community support resources as a regular part of our program.  Please see our “Family Involvement” section of the website for further information.

Who should call?

The residential program is for people who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs, and are experiencing some of the following issues because of their addiction:

  • Experiencing strife with their partner and/or family
  • Finding themselves unable to provide emotional or financial support for their families
  • Missing work, in danger of losing their jobs or having lost a successful career
  • Considering treatment again after previous treatment episodes

It takes courage to ask for help. Call. The caring staff will sort out the details and explain the steps. An assessment is done over the phone, so the staff understands the client’s needs. An admission date is set. There may be a waiting list.  If any of these describe someone you know, please call 800.835.5611 OR 989.835.3466.

COUNSELING

Equipping you with skills to move forward on your own.

Ten16 Recovery Network can help a person find the path of recovery. Through outpatient counseling, a person can get access to quality treatment services while still being able to keep their responsibilities to work and home. Outpatient treatment can vary in intensity and frequency depending on how alcohol and other drugs are impacting a person’s life. Our caring staff use group and individual therapy to help a person explore the way they think, how they feel, and what they can do to promote change in their life.

Integrated Treatment and Support

We use a core of evidence-based practices framed in an abstinence-based approach enhanced by peer support.  We firmly believe that experience, strength and hope of those in long-term recovery are a necessary compliment to treatment.  The programs are individualized to meet the client’s needs and motivation to change. A person who thrives in counseling has the supports needed to help them maintain sobriety as they develop their recovery skills.

Integrated Help for Mental Health Concerns

It is not uncommon for issues like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress to be present along with a substance use disorder.  The best approach is to work on these co-occurring mental health issues at the same time a person is working to heal their substance use disorder.

ADDICTION/MENTAL HEALTH

Sad ’cause you are drinking?  Drinking ’cause you’re sad?

It may come as no surprise that a person’s struggle with alcohol and other drugs may be complicated by significant emotional concerns and co-occurring mental health issues.  For Ten16, it doesn’t matter which came first – the emotional struggles or the substance abuse.  Both are here, and both require the proper steps toward healing.  Since we take a holistic approach in our treatment and support services, our professional staff will address both at the same time.  All of our treatment programs are fully capable of dealing with the unique way these issues play off each other, and use a comprehensive approach to meet the emotional and mental heath needs of people early in their recovery.

Some of the issues that we commonly see here include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma / Post-Trauma Stress Disorder
  • Marital / family problems
  • Compulsive Behaviors

Call us.  We can help.  We understand how these emotional issues can trigger the disease, and put pressure on someone’s recovery.  They should not be ignored.  Remember, starting to use alcohol and other drugs is the last step of an active relapse.  Our professional staff have the skills to guide you toward positive emotional and spiritual health, while strengthening your recovery.

Ten 16 Recovery Network only provides mental health services to those people who have a substance use disorder as a part of their history.  If you are strictly seeking mental health services without the above conditions, we will be glad to recommend one of the excellent providers in our community.
