Transportation Safety Foundation (TSF)
Transportation Safety Foundation (TSF) is a private provider licensed by the State of New Mexico to conduct mandatory DWI (Driving While Impaired) education and defensive driving courses. While it is based in New Mexico, it also offers online traffic safety courses for other states like Alabama and Georgia.
The DWI School Program
The primary DUI-related program offered by TSF is the New Mexico State-Mandated DWI School.
-
Course Structure: This is a 12-hour educational program. It is typically divided into three separate 4-hour sessions.
-
Mandatory Attendance: You must attend all three sessions in the specific month you are registered. Missing a class usually requires you to restart the program and pay a reschedule fee (often around $50).
-
Curriculum: The course covers the behavioral causes of impaired driving, myths vs. facts about substance use, and the personal/legal costs of a conviction.
-
Victim Impact Panel: TSF also coordinates Victim Impact Panels (VIP), which are often a separate court requirement from the 12-hour school.
Location
The foundation operates as a local provider for several New Mexico counties, including Grant County and San Miguel County.
-
Mailing Address: , Peralta, NM 87042.
-
Physical Classes: Because the 12-hour DWI school must be taken in person in New Mexico, classes are held at designated community buildings or courtrooms within the county where you were referred. You should check your specific “Referral Form” for the exact building address.
-
Online Courses: TSF offers separate Defensive Driving and Aggressive Driving courses online for residents of New Mexico, Alabama, and Georgia through their website.
Operating Time & Schedule
-
Office Hours: Administrative support is generally available Monday through Friday during standard business hours (typically 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
-
Class Schedule: * In-person DWI classes are usually held on weekday evenings (e.g., 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM) or Saturdays.
-
The specific dates change monthly. You must register and pay in full in advance to secure a seat, as space is often limited.
-
-
Completion Deadline: For online traffic safety courses, students typically have 7 days from the date of payment to complete the material.
Costs and Payment
-
DWI School Fee: Approximately $175.00.
-
Payment Methods: TSF typically accepts cash or money order only if paying in person on the first day of class. Online registration via their website allows for credit/debit card payments. Personal or third-party checks are strictly not accepted.
Important Note: If you are taking the 12-hour DWI school to satisfy a New Mexico court order, ensure you have your Case Number and the name of the Referring Judge ready when you register.
