Family

Our defense work extends to all charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, Youth Criminal Justice Act and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. We also assist clients with quasi-criminal matters such as matters within the jurisdiction of the Firearms Act and Fisheries Act.

Wills & Estates

Estate planning is an important decision and requires legal advice tailored to the individual. By meeting with clients and reviewing each individual’s situation and intent, we are able to ensure that our clients receive the estate advice they need. We offer extensive experience in all estate matters, including drafting and advising on wills, power of attorneys, and trusts. We provide legal advice on the administration of estates and if necessary, litigate estate matters.

Litigation

We offer comprehensive litigation experience and are able to assist in all matters of litigation. We litigate insurance matters, contract disputes, employment issues, environmental damage, small claims, professional malpractice, and judgment and debt enforcement. Regardless of the matter being litigated, we aim to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients.

Personal Injury

We have extensive experience in assisting those who have been injured in accidents. We deal with insurance companies and all of the issues arising from accidents including compensation for personal injuries suffered.

Al graduated from St. Thomas University in 1973 with his Bachelor of Arts and from the University of New Brunswick with his Bachelor of Law in 1976. He practiced with Kenny, Jackson & McKee from 1976 until 1978 when he co-founded Calabrese Whitehead, now Whitehead, Miles & Associates. Al initially focused his practice on criminal and family law, but stopped practicing criminal law approximately 15 years ago to focus more on civil litigation, particularly personal injury claims. Al currently practices in the areas of family, civil, and probate law. He has appeared in the Provincial Court of New Brunswick, the Court of Queen’s Bench, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. He has also chaired the Employment Standards Tribunal for New Brunswick, the Mental Health Tribunal for Region III Hospital Corporation, the Canadian Pension Review Tribunal and the New Brunswick Liquor Corporation. He has taught at the bar admission course a number of times. Al was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006.

Allen graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1978 with his Bachelor of Business Administration and from the University of New Brunswick with his Bachelor of Law in 1985. He joined Whitehead, Miles & Associates in 1984. Allen practices in all areas of law particularly family, corporate, litigation, commercial and real estate and has acted as a Federal and Provincial Prosecutor and has appeared in the Federal Court. He has been involved in a number of 3P Projects representing the Province of New Brunswick. He has appeared in the Provincial Court of New Brunswick, the Court of Queen’s Bench, the Appeal Court of New Brunswick and the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.

 

Aleacia Bennett-LeBlanc

Aleacia graduated from the University College of Cape Breton in 1998 with a B.A. and from the University of New Brunswick with an L.L.B. in 2002. She joined Whitehead, Miles & Associates in 2003 as an articling student. Called to the bar in 2004 she has remained with the firm practicing primarily in the area of family law with experience in wills and estates, criminal and property. Aleacia has appeared in the Provincial Court, acting as Federal Prosecutor dealing with matters under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Excise Act, the Court of Queen’s Bench, in various jurisdictions, and the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick.

Aleacia is an active community member; currently she chairs the board of the Fredericton Family Resource Center and is the past chair of Laubach Literacy Fredericton. In addition, she volunteers with the Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic, the Family Law Legal Information Program and the Lawyer’s Assistance program. Aleacia has been involved in the CBA-NB Mid-Winter Meeting Organizing Committee and is a former volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

Ken graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a B.A. in 2007 and an L.L.B. in 2011. Ken joined Whitehead, Miles & Associates in 2011 as an articling student and was called to the bar in 2012. Ken practices in all areas of law including, litigation, property, corporate and commercial, criminal, wills and estates, employment, and bankruptcy and insolvency. He has appeared in the Provincial Court, the Court of Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal.

Geoffrey graduated from St. Thomas University in 2008 with his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, and from the University of New Brunswick with his Juris Doctor in 2014. Geoffrey worked as a sole practitioner after being called to the bar in 2015 until he joined Whitehead, Miles & Associates in 2016. Geoffrey practices in all areas of law including, family, property, corporate and commercial, criminal, wills and estates, and personal injury. Geoffrey has been a Mason with Cherry Mountain Lodge in Harvey Station since 2007.

 

Alexandria Smith-Doughty

Lexy obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in 2016. Prior to this, she obtained a BHSc from Western University in 2010 and a MPH from the University of Toronto in 2013. She joined Whitehead, Miles & Associates as an articling student in 2016 and was called to the bar in 2017. Lexy is an associate lawyer whose practice areas include civil litigation (with a focus on personal injury claims), wills and estates, and property, among others.

Lexy is a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick, The Advocates’ Society, the York Sunbury Law Society, and the Wills and Trusts Section of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). She also sits on the CBA’s Young Lawyers’ Mental Health Sub-Committee.

Lexy is actively involved in the community as a volunteer with the Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic, a board member of Fusion Fredericton, an occasional guest lecturer at the University of New Brunswick, and a percussionist in UNB’s Concert Band.
